UBL foreign transaction feeand everything else you pay on a card abroad

United Bank Limited charges 4.5% (min Rs 150) on its debit card and 4.5% (min Rs 100) on its credit card when you pay in a foreign currency, plus provincial sales tax on that fee. On top comes 0.5% advance tax under Section 236Y (1% for non-filers). Here's what that adds up to, with UBL's own schedule of charges highlighted.

How much does UBL charge on international transactions?

Debit card (Visa, Mastercard & UnionPay (PKR)): 4.5% (min Rs 150) of the payment. Credit card (Visa Classic, Gold, Platinum): 4.5% (min Rs 100) of the payment. On a $20 card payment by a filer with an account in Punjab, the credit card costs Rs 5,858.06 in total, Rs 316.96 (5.7%) more than the market rate.

Is there tax on UBL's foreign transaction fee?

Yes. Provincial sales tax is added to the fee, at 15–16% depending on the province of your account's branch. 236Y advance tax of 0.5% (filer) or 1% (non-filer) is charged on the whole amount.

How much does UBL charge to withdraw cash abroad?

Debit card: 4.5% (min Rs 150) per withdrawal. Taking out $100 with the debit card costs Rs 29,290.25 in all, including tax on the fee and 236Y.
