Askari foreign transaction feeand everything else you pay on a card abroad

Askari Bank charges 3.5% on its Ikhlas Visa debit and 4.85% on its credit card when you pay in a foreign currency, plus provincial sales tax on that fee. On top comes 0.5% advance tax under Section 236Y (1% for non-filers). Here's what that adds up to, with Askari's own schedule of charges highlighted.

How much does Askari charge on international transactions?

Ikhlas Visa debit (Islamic banking, Classic to Signature): 3.5% of the payment. Credit card (Mastercard Classic to World): 4.85% of the payment. On a $20 card payment by a filer with an account in Punjab, the Ikhlas Visa debit costs Rs 5,793.78 in total, Rs 252.68 (4.6%) more than the market rate.

Is there tax on Askari's foreign transaction fee?

Yes. Provincial sales tax is added to the fee, at 15–16% depending on the province of your account's branch. 236Y advance tax of 0.5% (filer) or 1% (non-filer) is charged on the whole amount.

How much does Askari charge to withdraw cash abroad?

Ikhlas Visa debit: 4% (min Rs 400) per withdrawal. Taking out $100 with the Ikhlas Visa debit costs Rs 29,129.56 in all, including tax on the fee and 236Y.
