JS Bank foreign transaction feeand everything else you pay on a card abroad

JS Bank charges 4.5% (min Rs 350) on its debit card and 5% (min Rs 450) on its credit card when you pay in a foreign currency, plus provincial sales tax on that fee. On top comes 0.5% advance tax under Section 236Y (1% for non-filers). Here's what that adds up to, with JS Bank's own schedule of charges highlighted.

Debit card (Mastercard & Visa, Gold to World): 4.5% (min Rs 350) of the payment. Credit card (Classic & Platinum): 5% (min Rs 450) of the payment. On a $20 card payment by a filer with an account in Punjab, the debit card costs Rs 5,974.81 in total, Rs 433.71 (7.8%) more than the market rate.

Is there tax on JS Bank's foreign transaction fee?

Yes. Provincial sales tax is added to the fee, at 15–16% depending on the province of your account's branch. 236Y advance tax of 0.5% (filer) or 1% (non-filer) is charged on the whole amount.

How much does JS Bank charge to withdraw cash abroad?
